Department of Geography Education
The purpose of the geography education is to comprehend our living space through basic concepts and theories in geography, and to cultivate talented teachers with knowledge and behaviors desirable for secondary school education. In order to fulfill these purposes, teachers are trained with geographical knowledge about places and locations, regions and spatial interactions, and relationships between the human and the natural environments. Democratic and patriotic citizenship are encouraged with righteous geography education.
Students become educated in proper geographical contents, research, and teaching methods for the geography education for middle schools, and have opportunities and abilities to advance to upper echelons of educational institutions and graduate schools. Students pursue theoretical matters and other practical phenomena as well, usually with field experience that is offered twice a year.
All students are able to obtain the qualifications for the secondary school teachers with graduation. Students can choose from many kinds of jobs related to geography education: middle school teachers, administrators, research instructors, specialists of GIS, professors, and so on.
