Department of Earth Science Education
Earth science education aims to train middle school science teachers and high school earth science teachers. The goal is to train qualified earth science teachers with general understanding of earth science - geology, astronomy, atmospheric science, and oceanography - and the overall field of science, effective teaching methods and morality to positively influence students.
The Major in Earth Science Education aims to train earth science teachers who are equipped with professional skills to teach middle and high school students courses in earth science such as geology, astronomy, atmospheric science and oceanography. The Department offers diverse instruction courses. For the introductory approach, the curriculum covers earth science teaching methods, the overview of earth science and outline of geology, astronomy, atmospheric science, and oceanography. The levels are deepened in the curriculum for majors accompanying instructions, experiments, and seminars.
Most of the graduates are expected to work as science or as earth science teachers at middle or high schools except some students who go on to graduate school for more profound study and they end up with acquiring jobs at research institutions or jobs related to educational administrations or the petroleum industry, etc. Therefore, students who graduate from the major contribute to society by putting their special knowledge into practical use which is greatly meaningful. It is convincing that there should be more requests of the human workforce from the many companies and research organizations for this major.
