Department of French Language & Literature

Traditionally, France has played a pivotal role in the world politically, economically, and culturally. Its role has become even more prominent since the expansion of the European Union. The goal of the Department is to seek knowledge and creative adoption of aspects of French literature and culture. Ultimately, the Department empowers students to introduce French culture to Korea and vice-versa.

For the first two years of undergraduate programs, students are expected to take basic courses designed to help them acquire proficiency in French. For the last two years, they are required to take cognitively demanding courses such as French Linguistics and Literature. Graduates from previous years have contributed to cultural exchanges between Korea and France, thereby bringing advancement to Korean culture. They have also played an important role in improving Korea’s relationships with Francophone countries in Europe and Africa.
