Department of Chinese Language & Literature
Korea and China have historically competed and cooperated with each other in many respects. This destiny calls for a more in-depth approach to Chinese language and culture, which is the focus of various courses provided by the Department. Students take courses from beginner to advanced level in Chinese conversation and practical Chinese, while deepening their understanding of modern China through a variety of visual and audio materials. Students progressively move to the advanced, comprehensive courses in linguistics such as phonology, literacy, old and modern grammar, cultural linguistics and literary genres like poetry, prose, dramas, essays, novels, literary theories, and literary criticism. The ultimate objective of these various curricula is to help students have an in-depth, comprehensive grasp towards its politics, economics, and society beyond Chinese language, literature, and culture.
