Department of Family Environment and Welfare

The goal of the Department of Family Environment and Welfare is to contribute to the development of family welfare and quality of life through systematic studies of interaction between human and family environment. To achieve this goal, the Department educates students on basic theories and practical courses, and trains professionals who manage special tasks and social problems.

This Department was established in 1981 and changed its name from “Home Management” to “Family Environment and Welfare” in 2002. Major fields consist of family and consumer economics, housing and interior design, child care and counseling, family studies, social welfare, and family resource management.

Students may pursue careers in consumer-related institutes, the Department of Planning, advertisement, marketing, Consumer Counseling in Cooperation, mass media fields such as newspaper, broadcasting, and research centers. They may also find positions in housing-related industries, architectural design, housing counseling, interior and housing magazines, broadcasting stations, interior design, publishing companies, and construction companies. Among positions, graduates may find positions as child care teachers, child counselors, play therapists, child welfare professionals, family counselors, family life educators, social workers, healthy family coordinators, educators, and researchers.
