School of Electronics and Computer Engineering
School of Electronics and Computer Engineering
The goals of Electronics and Computer Engineering (ECE) are to introduce concepts in electronics and computers in an integrated manner; to motivate basic concepts in the context of real applications; to illustrate a logical way of thinking about problems and their solutions; and to convey the excitement of the profession. These goals are attained through the analysis, construction, and testing of systems that incorporate concepts from a broad range of areas within electronics and computer engineering.
The purpose of the School of Electronics and Computer Engineering is to nurture specialists in the field who demonstrate positivity and initiative. The School trains students who are able to combine theory with applications, tailors education for each student, produces graduates who meet the needs of industry, and encourages creativity and social responsibility among students. The School contributes to the development of each citizen as well as the local community and nation as a whole by leveraging information technology. The Departments of Electronic Engineering and Computer Engineering were merged into the School of Information Engineering, which later became the School of Electronics, Computer, and Information Engineering after its merger with the School of Computer Information in 2002.
Thanks to the New University Regional Innovation Project, a number of student support programs were offered, including overseas exchange organizations, overseas language training, support for outstanding clubs, and numerous scholarships and grants for students. Also, through local projects, an active internship program allows students to visit industrial companies and to help graduates choose various careers in large private corporations, public corporations, and research institutes.
Electronic Engineering Program
This Program focuses on electron hardware and systems including semiconductors, communication, electromagnetic waves, electron control, and multimedia in electronics. The goals of the Program are to train competent persons able to combine understanding of science with broader knowledge, to train engineers with strong business skills, and to instill a strong sense of ethics among its graduates.
Computer Engineering Program
This Program focuses on computer software/ hardware development such as multimedia, networks, information security, pattern recognition, database, robot intelligence, computer architecture, and embedded systems.
The goals of the Program are to train competent persons with strong computer engineering knowledge, creativity, teamwork, and communication skills. We also encourage participation in competitions and run internship programs to integrate in-class education with on-site experience.
These programs prepare students for careers in research and development in such areas as software and information systems, communication systems, computer networks, distributed computing, computer architecture, VLSI, computer vision, digital signal and image processing, and artificial intelligence. Graduates are currently playing major roles in various fields of society, such as the electronics industry, computer industry, information industry, government, and various research institutes.
